ARRL Field Day 2003

Field Day 2003 has come and gone and the members OMARC had a great time and made a very good showing as usual. The weather was perfect, the setup went smooth and the food, drink and good times abounded.

We were again weak in the number of needed operators, with those that did operate having to put in extra effort. We really need to keep the stations manned the full 24 hours with rack'em, stack'em and pack'em contest style operating on the two main stations. We also need to have that GOTA station manned as much as possible too. The 6 meter station is a added bonus if the band yields a nice Sporatic-E opening and we can rack up contacts there.

We have submitted some of the 100 plus digital photographs taken at Field Day to the ARRL Affiliated Club section and FD Contest Soap Box see:

Within the week all of the photos will be posted here, below are some teasers to get an idea of what took place if you were not able to attend.

SETUP:

Many of these photos look like photos of years past as we did pretty much the same old configuration that has proven itself to work at the Marucci Park site.

FUN AND LEISURE:

The really classic event during Field Day was the orange street cone separation routine performed by members of the Safety Committee... many more photos of this to come.....

ON-THE-AIR DURING THE DAY:

CQ Field Day CQ Field Day N2MO Field Day.... that was what one heard walking within a few hundred feet of the pavilion at Marucci Park for 24 hours, right up to the minute of the end of the contest. Actually the Phone station delayed its start for a about 15 minutes as the CW QRP solar powered station made its needed bonus point contacts. There after the 2A SSB station just kept plugging away. The CW stations kept plugging away as well racking up those 2 points per QSO contactrs, but they are much quieter as far as the visitors to the site are concerned as ones mouth is not going in high gear... hi hi

ON-THE-AIR DURING THE NIGHT:

It was dark and quiet during most of the night run, WA2HZT packed up the CW station around 1:300am or so and N2GEG packed up the GOTA station about 2:00am or so and the 2A SSB station was it until the sun came up again

Above is our Master CW OP, Ron, WA2HZT knocking off the extra bonus point contacts on our solar powered QRP CW station on 40 meter at the start of Field Day using an FT-817 with Vibroplex Racer paddle and MFJ QRP antenna tuner into an inverted V with a 2:1.1 VSWR on the bottom of the band (cut for SSB) for over 5 contacts in less than 15 minutes.
